Carpooling extends car's "life"

In Jan. 2006, I began working at Wyeth Biopharma in Andover and commuted 65 miles from Worcester. I left home at 7:00 am, drove alone, and filled up my 29-MPG-car every third day. That summer, I made one improvement and moved to Haverhill for a solo commute of only 15 miles each way.
In April 2007, I seized the opportunity to carpool with a coworker. We have fun carpooling every day. My car has gained extra two years of its lifespan.
Our company rewards us with fuel debit cards, which definitely ease the pain of filling up. There is nothing like the reward of filling up the tank and instead of paying $40 or $45 dollars for 16 gallons of gas, you pay only $15 or $20.
I also save on car maintenance. When I traveled solo, I needed to change the oil every two months. Now, I'm going five to six months between oil changes. Two oil changes a year versus six oil changes a year is a big savings.
I'm very glad to carpool and will continue to do so.
