I have been riding my hybrid bike with slick tires five to ten times each summer from Marblehead to Andover since 1999. I bike 24 miles through Salem, Danvers, Middleton and Harold Parker. I'd do it more but it can be a logistical problem with meetings, laptops, and family commitments.
My normal car commute home at the end of the day takes about 60 minutes. I can travel the same distance in about 90 minutes by bike and get in that needed workout.
My best trip ever came when going home. I passed a line of cars at the intersection of Route 62/114 in Middleton and noticed a car with a MHD sticker. I drove for the next hour and that same car passed by me in front of Salem State College. It is possible that the delay was because she had to stop for an errand, but I like to think it was all wasted gas and time at the lights.
I'm relocate to Boston next month. I plan to ride but the options are few. Could the Ted Williams Tunnel have included a bike path? But Route 99 is doable. Any suggestions?
We do need better access roads for bikes in the city!
